Hasselblad back with all-new H6D

Hasselblad has announced its all-new H6D medium format camera, ‘completely rebuilt with new technical components and an all new electronic platform.’

There are two versions: the H6D-100c with a 100-megapixel CMOS sensor (53.4x40mm); and the H6D-50c with a 50-megapixel CMOS sensor. (Sony sensor technology.)

Shutter speed range is expanded to 1/2000 sec – 60 minutes, while ISO range on the H6D-50c is 100-6400, and up to 12,800 on the 100c. The 100c also has a wider dynamic range – 15 stops compared to the 14 for the 50c.

A USB 3.0 Type-C connector delivers fast file transfer. The H lens range is fully compatible and a newly updated range of lenses, which have an orange marking to denote them from previous versions, support shutter speeds up to 1/2000s.

The H6D-100c delivers 4K video capability to medium format, while the 50c shoots video at Full HD. Both cameras have cards slots for both CFast and SD cards as well as a tethered shooting option. Wi-Fi is also a standard feature.

Hasselblad’s image processing software, Phocus, has been enhanced with the new 3.0 version delivering additional features that allow you to apply local adjustments in the image and a new graphical interface that improves work flow and user experience.

Hasselblad-H6D-100c_front-shot_WH1‘The launch of the H6D range is the beginning of a year of celebration for Hasselblad. It’s fitting that we have returned to our pinnacle medium format camera to showcase the innovation and passion that have been present in every one of our first 75 years,’ said Hasselblad CEO, Perry Oosting.

‘We have retained the best and introduced the most relevant – delivering a medium format camera which we believe the Hasselblad user will fall in love with all over again.’

According to the BJP, further announcements are promised from Hasselblad later in the year (with the Photokina trade show in Cologne this September looking like the obvious venue to make them).

Local pricing and availability details are yet to come. Overseas the cameras are quoted as around US$26K for the 50c and US$33K for the 100c.
