Abraham Joffe wins Milli Award

Australian cinematographer Abraham Joffe has received the Australian Cinematography Society (ACS) 2017 Milli Award for directing Canon’s locally produced photography adventure series, Tales by Light.

The Milli Award is described by ACS, a group representing local cinematographers, as the ‘highest award an Australian cinematographer can receive’ from the organisation. It runs national awards similar to the AIPP’s Australian Professional Photography Awards.

The ACS and its awards are sponsored by Fujifilm and Panasonic, and Joffe won the top prize for the episode, Darren Jew Submerged.

‘Since I was a boy I have craved to have an adventurous life with a camera in hand. This award is a huge vote of confidence to keep chasing that dream. Thank you so much to the ACS for this great honor,’ Joffe said.

In addition to the Milli Award, Canon said Abraham received Distinction in the Ron Taylor ACS Wildlife & Nature category.

‘This film is a very special one to me as it marked the beginning of the Tales by Light journey. It was the first episode in the ongoing series that shines a light on the motivations and craft of some of the world’s greatest photographers,’ Joffe said.

Tales by Light, a production by Canon and National Geographic, is a photography adventure series which follows professional photographers as they pursue their dream projects around the world.

Both seasons are available on Netflix in Australia and around the world.

Last year’s recipient of the Milli Award was John Seale for his work on Mad Max: Fury Road.
